„As with all culture, heritage as a cultural creation of the present, is fashion driven: new presents will constantly imagine new pasts to satisfy changing needs.”
WELCOME TO THE KRAKOW HERITAGE PORTAL!
No matter if you’re trying to find out more about your place of living or you’re planning to have a good time in one of Central Europe’s most remarkable historic cities, you’ve come to the right place.
On the portal, you will find inspirations for wandering and attentive walks around the historical corners of Krakow – from the Main Market Square to the Central Square and from the Krakus Mound to the modernist quarter in the area of Inwalidów Square.
Each virtual walk is both a story on its own and an invitation to read the city anew.
We don’t make a distinction between the Wit Stwosz Altarpiece, the exhibition of Krakow Cribs and historic bookshops, craftsmen’s workshops and markets – we follow trends and treat heritage as a constant change, a record of history consisting of both the glorious moments and the more difficult ones, the history of large communities and local micro-stories.
On this portal we also look at the various forms of heritage protection and the international organisations of which Krakow is a member.
Heritage is the space where the past meets the future – and it speaks to us here and now.
Enjoy your walks!
